There is something to be said when you find yourself telling someone what you want to do. However, it does not become exciting until you ACTUALLY do it. Well, I have actually started sewing lessons. I find myself with a day off from work, a perfect beach day at that, and I am on my third floor struggling to create pockets in a skirt I have been working on for a good month.
I have successfully patched up 4 pair of my fathers favorite jeans. I used lime green thread and random zig zag stitches to complete the task. My father loved the fact that he could wear his first pair of jeans I had fixed the next day from when he had given them to me. I returned from work and found 3 more pair waiting on my bench for me.
While I sit here happily struggling to make the perfect pockets for my first and hopefully wearable item I'm thinking I COULD make a little business out of these nick- knack jobs. However, I'm sure not every customer would be color blind.

You are what you wear, ever think of that one?
TV shows, magazines, advertisements... okay, the media.
Your trying on clothes, not in the mood, not really "feelin it." Nothing looks good, so we think we need more, we think we need to shop, we need something new to make the appearance. If we just learn how to wear our clothes and wore them how we want, we could all get by with what is in the closet. Look at it like fabric and do with it what you please. I understand it is not that easy for everyone to do, because who knows what's in there, when the last time you revamped your wardrobe, or if you have ever. so much can contribute to your wardrobe, but who is to tell you what to wear?
Why do you listen to that "honest" friend anyways? Are they even in the "fashion right?" Who is to say what is considered "right" in fashion? I would like to suggest you to just wear what you like and I think that is fashion.
What defines fashion really?
Expression that a person displays. Before one gets the chance to speak, whether or not we want to admit it...you are being judged by the appearance you are giving off. What are you communicating to the world around you? Are you really being YOU. Is that important?
I would have to say, YES. Yes it is actually. But wait, what have we been told/ brainwashed to think? Its a true concern of mine to make the world we live in a better place. Everyone goes about it differently... I'm not the GO GREEN to the max type, don't fret.
Soul searching is taking place in my generation due to a serious case of misdiagnosed "allowance of laziness." I define this as the "well, the economy sucks so I may as well move home to get on my feet and then figure out what I want to do." Everyone can call it what they want, there is nothing wrong with moving home to save a few bucks before a graduate makes any decisions...
SO what happens when one of these "fishies out of water" graduates, if they want it, they go for it... they send the resumes, wait restlessly, consider grad school...
So where does this generation go? Who are we? Why are we so lost?
Well, I think it is a good thing that more students are looking at options other than "work" right out of college. Some may choose to further their studies, some may choose to do the couch potato thing at home for a while, some may make good use of their time doing what they have always felt was necessary. Volunteering is becoming more popular which I think is so great. Our generation has been given this misdiagnosis for a reason. We are being allowed to find our purpose, its been handed to us on a golden platter, GO DO WHAT YOU WANT! be free! AKA there is no hope to find a job so what now, go explore your likes and dislikes and reapply in a few years when you have got more than the company itself has to offer.
Knowing who you are what you can do and what your limits are is nothing that comes overnight. Showing up to an interview dressed to impressed is just one part of it. It is the outer shell of "appropriateness." Open your mouth and have nothing to offer but a gpa and consecutive activity in student government... so does everyone else my friend. This exploration is necessary and exciting. We are finally able to go on this exploration to nurture our creative abilities, realize our strengths, admit our weaknesses. Without ignoring what advice you have been given in the past. Without feeling pressure to conform. Without feeling like life is on hold, because it is not. Find it necessary to look at history History HISTORY!
For me, that is where this burst of inspiration all began. This blog is just a snippet of what I have learned and will keep forever. This exploration has helped me to understand why I do what I do, why I enjoy what I do. All of the subjects I have learned in school I never thought meant anything. I only remembered what I "learned" if I could directly connect the subject to my life. Sure, I got a grade and of course I tried because I wanted to do well academically but I never understood how good it would feel to be "well-rounded" until now.
